LATHERS AND PLASTERERS COURSE(S) & TEST
This is a set of knowledge-based courses without any hands-on training. Codes and standards are an important part of trade knowledge. However, experts agree understanding the WHY is more critical to a successful stucco installation rather than reciting code language. It is the real comprehension of why something works or fails that makes a worker more knowledgeable, adaptable and valuable. Lathing and plastering are not only skilled trades, but time honored, and the knowledge of the why is a big part of what makes stucco work or fail. The SMA Stucco Training Modules are free for all to view. Testing is intended for the workers to verify that besides working the tools, they comprehend the why of what they do. There is a Lath test, Plaster test or a combined Lath/Plaster test.
SUPERVISORS COURSE & TEST (cost includes the Lath & Plaster tests)
It also includes a Supervisor Manual on leadership, estimating, window design pressures, code, and standards regarding stucco as well as litigation issues.
The SMA recognizes others may want to verify their comprehension of stucco knowledge, even though they are not trade workers or supervisors for lath and plastering. The SMA has created CLASSIFICATIONS that will be displayed on the front of the card.
